Barangay Gundaway come into existence in the year 1951, during the administration of late Silverio Pascua, who became first elected Municipal Mayor of Diffun, Gundaway was still then a part of Diffun.
On June 21, 1972, Republic Act 5554 becomes a Law, creating the Province of Quirino and the Municipality of Cabarroguis, and simultaneously Cabarroguis become the Capital town of Quirino. Gundaway then was transferred to Cabarroguis.
The land area of Barangay Gundaway is 629.6612 hectares with total population of 4,682 the first inhabitants of Barangay Gundaway were the families of late George Capinpin, Avelino Agustin Sr., Quirino Melchor, Manuel Abon, Dominador Licudan, Catalino Vertudez, Pedro Domondon, Faustino Flores while some came later. Although, Barangay Gundaway is hilly and mountainous, the soil is suited for agricultural purposes. The residents are mostly farmers. The main crops are: rice and corn while Banana and other kinds of vegetables are considered minor crops.
Barangay Gundaway which is the seat of the Capital Town also a promising ground for business, where we can now see different establishment. Barangay Gundaway has a biggest INTERNAL REVENUE ALLOTMENT entire the municipality of Cabarroguis, in additional to its local sources where officials used to run its Barangay Local Government Unit.
Barangay Gundaway has four (4) Elementary Schools and two (2) Secondary Schools. It has also a functional Health Center, managed by Barangay Health workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars with supervision of Rural Health Midwife and NDPs.
Barangay Gundaway is a very peaceful place. Although the inhabitants belong to different creed of belief, considering they hail from the different parts of the adjacent provinces, like Ifugaos, Benguet, Pangasinenses, Tagalogs, Ibanags, Igorots and Ilocanos yet them exist still the camaraderie and brotherhood among the residents.
It is apparent that Barangay Gundaway will become a very progressive Barangay. The Barangay Officials are also in a double effort in the implementation of government projects. It has also the blessings of the local officials particularly the Honorable Congressman of the Province of Quirino and the Provincial Officials.
To date, the barangay Officials focus their attention to infrastructure project and Health and sanitation Programs.
